12 February 2012 Dear Member
Our next meeting will take place at 8.00 pm on Monday 5th March 2012 at The Canberra Club, British Aerospace, Samlesbury Aerodrome, Whalley Road, Balderstone, Near Blackburn, Lancashire. PR5 0UN.
At this months meeting by popular requests we will be having a hotpot supper. The cost of the meal is just £4.00 per head and will be prepared by our host at The Canberra Club, Steve. Can you please let us have your meal requirements ASAP by either ringing Elaine on 01942 225146 or Alan on 0161 292 0718. Please note that we cannot take orders on the night.
It was our AGM at the last meeting with 43 Area 18 members in attendance. Your present Committee was voted on for another 12 months as there were no new candidates proposed for any of the positions. Our Chairman Brian gave his detailed review of a very busy 2011 highlighted by the 50th anniversary of the E-Types launch in 1961. The annual accounts were presented to the floor that returned a very welcome but modest profit for the year. Alan presented a proposed itinery of Area 18 activities for 2012. John Butterworth made a very good suggestion that we could perhaps have a Treasure Hunt at one of the Summer meetings. If anyone would like to organise this event then please let any Committee member know. It was also suggested that Millers Oils could perhaps return to Area 18 to give us an update on what additives are available to help combat the effects of Ethanol in fuel. There was a special presentation to Peter and Jennifer Marsland in recognition of generating some £2.500.00 for club funds over a 20 plus year period by selling Autoglym products at advantageous prices to Area 18 members with all profits going to club funds. A remarkable feat I'm sure you will agree. Well done to you both. The Chairman's Trophy winner was a very worthy Gerry Rockley. Gerry has been a member of Area 18 for quite a few years now and attends most monthly meetings and events. With the Chairman's Trophy comes a cheque for £150.00 for the recipients chosen Charity. This year St Catherine's Hospice has been nominated by Gerry. Our fantastic Social Committee gave a review of last years events and informed us of this years programme. We will keep you all informed of forthcoming events at the monthly meetings and in the newsletters. Area 18 day will once again be at Lytham Hall on August 12th 2012. It is still not too late to take advantage of our Spring Weekend at the Breadsall Priory on Friday March 30th to Monday 2nd April. The cost is just 74.50 per person per night dinner bed and breakfast and you can just do 2 nights if you do not want to stay the whole weekend. Also the Sidmouth extravaganza at the fabulous 4 star Victoria Hotel arriving Saturday 19th May to Sunday 27th May still has rooms available. The tariff is £195.00 per room for 2 people dinner bed and breakfast and you can stay for just 2 nights or more if you like. Give Steve Liver a call if you would like to go on either of these events. 01524 414428.
On the 24/25 March 2012 Cheshire Auto Promotions will be hosting the second of their indoor shows at Event City, next to The Trafford Centre, Manchester M41 7TB and they would like six Jaguars from Area 18. We are still appealing for cars to fill the Jaguar stand with Area 15 and support this growing event by exhibiting with superb Jaguars. If you would like to display your car please let any Committee member know ASAP.
The Woodvale Rally takes place on the weekend of the 4th and 5th of August 2012. Unfortunately this event clashes with The JDC National Day once again. Elaine will be applying for Woodvale tickets but only by request from members. Entry tickets are just £5.00 per car representing fantastic value for money for a whole days entertainment. Please let Elaine know if you would like to take advantage of this offer.
Martin England of Area 15 is organizing a Jaguar Drivers Club stand at The Cholmondely Pageant of Power that takes place this year on the weekend of 15th-17th June. If you are going to this event which is being hailed as "The Goodwood of the North" then there are price advantages if you book early. For example: A club adult Pageant ticket bought before 31st March is just £15.00 per person with free children's tickets but on the day this price goes up to £30.00 per person with children at £10.00. A considerable saving I'm sure you will agree. If you want too book this offer yourself then you will need a ticket code that can be obtained from me at the meeting. Also a further discount of 10% will be enjoyed by groups of 10 or more. Give Martin England a call on 01928 732527 if you want more details.
There is an evening with our very own Norman Dewis at Whalley Golf Club on Thursday 29th March 2012. This is organised by The Lancashire Automobile Club and tickets are a very reasonable £12.50 and that includes supper.
